This documentary presents the findings of an extensive field study conducted across 20 provinces of Afghanistan, based on interviews with 100 women seeking healthcare services and 60 female doctors, nurses, and midwives working on the frontlines of women’s health.
The documentary explores how social restrictions, mobility barriers, and the requirement of a male guardian continue to affect women’s access to essential healthcare services. It highlights the challenges faced by women in remote communities, where access to emergency and maternal healthcare remains limited and often delayed.
The research also reveals a growing mental health crisis among Afghan women. Many participants reported experiencing depression, anxiety, chronic stress, fear, and a profound sense of uncertainty about the future.
At the same time, female healthcare workers continue to provide critical services despite significant professional and personal challenges. Through their testimonies, the documentary sheds light on the barriers affecting both healthcare providers and the women who depend on them.
More than a study of healthcare, this documentary is a story about resilience, dignity, and the fundamental right of women to access health services without discrimination or restriction.
