International Day of Women in Science!

Statement

On the occasion of the International Day of Women in Science, Dialogue Hub for Common Ground emphasizes that equal access for all women and girls worldwide to education and scientific opportunities is not only a fundamental human right but also a legal obligation under international human rights standards.

Barriers that prevent women and girls from education and scientific participation constitute violations of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). These restrictions also conflict with the standards of the UN Human Rights Committee and UNESCO’s principles on education for all and gender equality in science.

Dialogue Hub for Common Ground calls on the global community, international organizations, and human rights institutions to take concrete actions, provide legal support, and exert diplomatic pressure to ensure full realization of women’s and girls’ rights worldwide. Active participation of women and girls in science not only guarantees justice and sustainable development but also fulfills states’ international human rights obligations.

The voices of women and girls, especially from marginalized and underrepresented communities, must be heard. Their opportunities must be respected, and their path to rights facilitated through support from laws and international standards. Afghan women and girls, who face severe educational and social restrictions, are a stark example of systemic inequality and deprivation.

Dialogue Hub for Common Ground urges the global community to focus attention and support o his group so they too can equally participate in science and society, building a brighter future fo themselves and their communities.
